A Restaurant With Boat Parking
On the walk up to The Shrimp Box and Outside the Box Patio Bar, there's an intense fishy smell of the surrounding bay.Once inside, customers can enjoy the view of the inlet and fishing boats coming and going on their daily runs. The seafood restaurant has a casual air that welcomes boaters to 20-something vacationers. "A lot of people say they never knew this place existed," said George Gyftakis, a member of the family-run restaurant. "It's the Jersey shore's best-kept secret."
The grilled shrimp and bacon wrap ($12) and the half-stuffed lobster ($16) with crab meat are sought-after lunch items. The crab meat is one of the Shrimp Box's staple dishes, and Head Chef Lenny de Luca is known for it. Mr. Gyftakis said he's noticed a recent popularity surge in the lunch salads because diners are able to customize them to their liking.
Everything on the menu is made fresh, from the fish to the walnuts. "We get a lot of our supplies from the fishing boats you see outside of the restaurant," Mr. Gyftakis says. "It doesn't get fresher than that."
